Saleem Ashkar completes Beethoven sonata and concerto cycles

Saleem Ashkar returns to the Polish National Radio Orchestra this weekend in the culmination of his Beethoven concerto cycle. The project began in over two years ago when the Israeli-Palestinian  pianist joined the orchestra to perform Piano Concerto Nos. 1 and 3, and 2 and 4 on consecutive evenings. This Sunday sees Saleem bring the cycle to a conclusion with Beethoven’s final concerto, “Emperor”, under the baton of Finnegan Downie Dear. Complete Sonatas Cover

The performance follows the conclusion of Saleem’s complete cycle of Beethoven sonatas on Decca, with the release of both the final disc in the series as well as a complete recording of all 32 sonatas. Watch Saleem discuss the recordings in the video below.

Beethoven will again be on the programme when Saleem makes his Oslo debut this spring with a recital at Den Norske Opera and Ballet. He follows that with a return to the Copenhagen Philharmonic for Grieg’s Piano Concerto, which he last performed in January with the Brussels Philharmonic and conductor Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider. Spring also brings a return to Konzerthaus Berlin for two performances of Ravel with the Konzerthausorchester.
